Our Story

The Dena Foundation was born from a simple but powerful observation: South Asian Canadians are among the most generous communities in this country — yet there was no dedicated philanthropic vehicle designed with their values, culture, and giving traditions in mind.

We set out to change that.

Founded in 2019, The Dena Foundation is Canada's first South Asian–focused Donor Advised Fund foundation. We believe that philanthropy should be accessible, intentional, and deeply personal — and we've built a platform that reflects those beliefs.

Our Name

The word "Dena" (देना / دینا) means to give in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, and several other South Asian languages. It is a word that carries warmth, generosity, and community — everything this foundation stands for.

Our Team

The Dena Foundation is led by a dedicated team who bring together over 25 combined years of charitable board experience years in athletics, arts, child empowerment, and religious organizations. United by a shared commitment to South Asian philanthropy and community building in Canada, our board brings the expertise, passion, and cultural understanding needed to guide the foundation's mission forward.
