A Smarter Way to Give

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is like a charitable savings account. You make a donation to your fund, receive an immediate tax receipt, and then recommend grants to your favourite charities — on your own timeline.

Step 1 — Open Your Fund
Set up your named Donor Advised Fund with The Dena Foundation. Choose a fund name that reflects your family or values (e.g., The Singh Family Charitable Fund).

How It Works (Step by Step)

Step 2 — Make a Contribution
Contribute cash, securities (stocks/mutual funds), or other eligible assets. You receive an immediate charitable tax receipt for the full amount.

Step 3 — Watch It Grow
Your contribution is invested and can grow tax-free while sitting in your fund — giving you more to grant over time.

Step 4 — Recommend Grants
At any time, recommend grants to any eligible Canadian registered charity or Not for Profit. You're always in control of where your money goes.

Step 5 — Build Your Legacy
Name your children or future generations as successors to continue your philanthropic legacy.

Who Is a DAF Right For?

  • Individuals who give regularly to multiple charities

  • Families who want to give together and teach children about philanthropy

  • Business owners who have had a profitable year and want a tax-efficient giving strategy

  • People who have received an inheritance or windfall and want to give meaningfully

  • Anyone who wants to build a philanthropic legacy in their name

Donor Advised Funds can also be used as a part of a Estate, an Family Trust, or a small business. They provide flexibility, and options to families who seek alternate opportunities to fuel the future.
